The research results concerning the farming system development in the extreme climatic conditions of the Central Siberia south over a long period are set forth in the article. The positive and negative aspects of different farming systems and agricultural plant cultivation technologies in the arid steppe and dry steppe zones of Tuva and Khakassia republics that must be considered in the agricultural plant design and agricultural technology development in the new socio-economic conditions are determined.
