It is established that the moisture availability in the spring wheat during tillering - out into the tube - earing period is determinative in yield formation. When in the 0-20 cm layer the available moisture reserves in dry years ranged from 5 to 20 mm, the wheat formed the grain yield 1.1-1.8 and with moisture reserves 18-41 mm the yield was from 3.5 to 5.1 t/ha.
