The development of virgin lands and laylands is not only an important stage in the history of Soviet state, but also the event which got an active re-sponse in public consciousness. In the study the forms of manifestation of the subject of development of virgin soil in culture and national creativity, i.e. Soviet songs, ditties, jokes are considered. Thus folk art is one of the most underestimated and low-studied sources of Soviet history. The main subjects fixed in the narration of national memory are analyzed. So, it is possible to single out national enthusiasm of masses and the disappointment from fail-ures from the actions connected with virgin campaign of N.S. Khrush-chev. In folklore it is possible to see gradual transition from ideologized "hurrah-patriotic" songs to national disappointment from the failure of vir-gin epic expressed by means of chastushkas and jokes. The research objec-tive was interpretation and analysis of the folklore devoted to N.S. Khrush-chev’s agricultural transformations, the definition of reigning moods at the beginning of virgin epic and during its actual failure. As methodological ba-sis of the research hermeneutic approach was chosen. By the results of the research the conclusion can be drawn that the first stage of realization of the development of virgin soil was favorably perceived by the people at large, as a new call to Soviet people with which they were able to cope. But in the pro-cess of appearance of serious contradictions and shortcomings of virgin campaign a radical change in public moods took place. Folk art sensitively captured the tendencies of the events and in a modified form brought them to listeners and spectators.
