Abstract (English):
The objective of the research is the analysis of the data on the number of prisoners and the number of the dead in the camp offices located on the ter-ritories of restricted administrative and territorial entity Zheleznogorsk, published by senior research associate of museum and exhibition center of Zheleznogorsk S.P. Kuchin. The history of GULAG, in broad sense of this concept has been considered in detail in historical literature for some dec-ades. However, still the questions of the number of the prisoners who were in GULAG camps and their mortality remain debatable and need specifica-tion. Owing to privacy and absence of official information to the middle of the 1980-ies at household level hearings about huge number of prisoners cir-culated. Modern historians regularly disprove conjectures, distortions and exaggerations, but in journalism and pseudo-scientific circles the specula-tion on the subject of the number of repressions of the victims of Stalin peri-od proceeds. It is necessary to make comparison of the data of All-Union and regional statistics for objective consideration of the matters. Also careful analysis of the number and mortality of prisoners in concrete labor camp is required. An important role of received data on the number of prisoners in separate camp offices is played by local history researches. However, quite often the materials collected by local historians due to various reasons are insufficiently correct and need critical analysis. The conclusion about partial bias of calculations of local historian researcher is drawn. At the same time powerful contribution of S.P. Kuchin to the research of the history of labor camp "Polyansky” should be noted. Being the first to do it in all reservations, not only the sizes of total number of the prisoners have been established, but also showed the dynamics of change of their number by years. S.P. Kuchin also collected the data on the quality and number of prisoners’ nutrition, their medical and sanitary service, day regimen and labor protection in la-bor camp "Polyansky" that indirectly says that the mortality in this camp could not be higher, than the author describes.
