The objective of the study is to examine the current situation in the timber market, existing and possible routes of timber logistics, to identify problems in timber export and possible solutions. The current situation in the timber and sawn timber market is analyzed, and the main problems in timber logistics caused by external and internal factors are identified. Timber export is one of the main sources of income for the Russian Federation and a number of its regions engaged in timber export. (Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Irkutsk, Tomsk and Krasnoyarsk Regions, the Komi Republic and Karelia). The northwestern regions supplied timber and sawn timber mainly to European countries, and to a lesser extent to Asian countries. Timber from Siberia was traditionally exported to China, Japan, South Korea and Asian countries. The imposed sanctions changed the direction of timber logistics in the northwest of Russia, redirecting cargo flows to the East. Changes in timber logistics and the low capacity of the Trans-Siberian and BAM railways have led to a clash of interests between procurement companies, exporters and regions.The paper considers the routes for transporting timber and board lumber: land - rail, the Northern Sea Route, and the combined North-South transport corridor. Each of the listed routes has its pros and cons. The most acceptable route for timber logistics of Siberian timber has been and remains the railway route along the Trans-Siberian and BAM highways. New geopolitical changes have forced us to work more actively on upgrading existing stations and building new sections. The problem of the Eastern Polygon, the need to modernize eastern ports, underdeveloped infrastructure, shortage of specialists, etc. remains. The commissioning of the Pacific Railway with access to the port of Elga on the Pacific coast and the construction of a port in Tugyl on the Irtysh River with a railway connection to it are considered as alternative options.
